Alice's Milliways Entrance Pre-thread
Oct. 2nd, 2008 03:46 pmIt was late night.
Which in the Cullen house meant nothing that it did anywhere else.
Esme was studying the front door, with a hand under her chin, in the way that meant remodeling might take place very soon. Carlise was in his office, shuffling his papers while classical music played. Jasper and Emmett were quite busy having a loud rematch across their eight chess boards in the sitting room, even though they played across the floor.
Edward, avoiding all of them, and on the eighth day of now also ignoring Isabella Swan, was in the living room. He was seated in a plush arm chair, next to the wall-wide glass window, reading a brown leather bound book.

She walked behind Emmett and mouthed a move to Jasper, smiling back at his quick grin. Alice wandered up behind Edward's chair and put her hands on her hips.
"Why are you opening doors?"

Date: 2008-10-02 09:05 pm (UTC)He'd considered forcing the door (or more specifically figuring out how to force the doorway to Milliways to appear at his preference instead of its preference) but he hadn't thought he was going to. His family, all with the same superhuman hearing, would have been bound to ask.
Apparently, he'd changed his mind again.
"To find something that isn't there, apparently" he said with a forming frown, not at her as much as the continual opening and closing and opening.

Date: 2008-10-02 09:11 pm (UTC)Something shifted in the vision. "Oh. No, I think you did find something." Vision-Edward opened another door and slipped through, disappearing. "...why are you vanishing into the pantry?"

Date: 2008-10-02 09:21 pm (UTC)He didn't.
Okay. Maybe he did. But it only made him flash bright angry toward the bar (and bellajennyalicefighting). Briefly, before there was a lazy, arrogant smile trying to be smothered by his lips being pressed together because the question got the attention of Emmet who snorted before he moved two kings and a bishop with a thought about how it wasn't the oddest place they could see Edward vanishing into in his snotty mood.
Book forgotten, Edward was out of his chair and a few feet beyond her looking back when he finally said. "You should see it." He let his glance flicker to Emmet who made a face . "You'd appreciate it."

Date: 2008-10-02 09:25 pm (UTC)Alice stepped after him, graceful and pixie-like. There had to be more of a story (especially with Bella cropping up again, and the flickery images of a bar, a blonde girl with a bright smile, herself) and Alice didn't want to miss the chance to know more.
"Okay, Edward. Show the pantry."

Date: 2008-10-02 09:32 pm (UTC)He stopped stock still in the kitchen, right in front of the pantry door. Edward looked it over. It was so simple. A gorgeous door by human standards, but it was just a door. Space with air breathing at a whisper between the wooden construct and it's edging.
His hand on the door lingered. It was breakable and steady and one he'd never needed to look at, since they didn't need a kitchen for any reason but appearances. It would be the last he'd check. His fingers tips traced down to to the handle as he thought about what was on the other side.

Date: 2008-10-02 09:37 pm (UTC)"Edward." Alice whispered, staring up at him. "Why is there a bar in our pantry?"

Date: 2008-10-02 09:45 pm (UTC)His fingers curled around the door opening it from it's casing.
Edward could feel it, the moment everyone's thoughts in the house froze except Alice's. He looked at her, as it became about a foot open, his tone wry. "Because the Universe affixed its bar there."

Date: 2008-10-02 09:50 pm (UTC)And then came a rush of new, undecided futures. Drinks and people meeting and it was all so much. She shut her eyes for a moment, before taking a step into the pantry. "Let's go."
Head first into adventure!
